Join Seattle-based instructor, Jessica Lindmark (Leaf to Root Yoga) and Inian Islands Institute Executive Director Zach Brown on this week-long yoga and wilderness immersion, filled with hiking, kayaking, humpback whales, and naturalist guides to help you understand the local ecology of the world’s largest protected ecosystem. Blending mindfulness with opportunities for awe and adventure, this course will renew your connection to the natural world both outside and within.

About the Location

P1010153Our home base for the week will be Inian Islands Institute. Situated at the tidal entrance to the northern Inside Passage, this location is teaming with abundant wildlife.  Surrounded by the Tongass National Forest, and a boat ride away from Glacier Bay National Park, we will be ideally located for encounters with wildlife and quiet moments of solitude.

Summer is the high season in Southeast Alaska. At this time, the days will be nearly at their longest, and humpback whale activity will be in full swing. Salmon will be running, and all manner of creatures will be enjoying the abundance of the season.

Our understanding of the natural phenomena around us will be deepened throughout retreat as we learn from Inian Islands Institute Executive Director, and Naturalist, Zach Brown, National Park Rangers, and local community members. If you have ever dreamed of visiting Alaska, this would be a very authentic and unique way to experience the landscape and the community that calls it home.

About our Practice

Kayaking_in_sunPractice will be held either on the front lawn (above) or in the “Yoga Lounge,” a cozy indoor space heated by wood fire. Jessica’s Yoga philosophy is to practice and develop the art of tending to oneself. What feels right for one person may not be for another. Accessible to both beginning and advanced students alike, she will offer modifications suitable to each practitioner. On any given day we will have the opportunity to practice slow flow, warming flow, and/or deep relaxation.
